Charlotte Michael, CATA©, BPE, Associate Diploma- Kinesiology, CPT© - Over the last six years my educational experiences have included studying at Red Deer College graduating with a diploma in Kinesiology, following that a degree in Bachelor of Physical Education and Recreation majoring in sports performance from the University of Alberta, and finally a degree in Bachelor of Athletic and Exercise Therapy from Camosun College. I continue to grow and learn each and every day to further my knowledge to help benefit my clients in achieving their fitness or rehabilitation goals.
Experiences gained through my studies were specific to my area of interest and skill set, which was focused on working with teams both in field and in clinic. The skill that I have acquired through working with the Men’s Basketball at RDC and the Bears Football program at the UofA, where both programs allowed me to gain an interest in this area of athletic therapy which allowed me to find the career I am currently in. Furthermore, other program involvement includes Rugby Canada with the men’s national seven’s and fifteen’s programs, BAAA hockey, team Alberta lacrosse and junior lacrosse programs, along with many other volunteer positions at tournaments and events. I am currently the Head Athletic Therapist with the VI Raiders Jr Football team in Nanaimo and am helping with various teams located in the greater Victoria area.
Clinical experiences come from Colligate Sports medicine Clinic in Red Deer, AB, and Back to Back in Colwood, BC. The focus of my skill set was on assessments and the use of modalities and exercise rehabilitation. Through my time management, organization, and client focused work, along with my interpersonal communication skills, my practice is able to help individual clients meet their rehabilitation goals through realistic timeframes. My knowledge gained from being athlete allows me to understand the stresses and pressures felt by an athlete or even a weekend warrior to return to their passion or sport. The years of playing sports and competing have allowed me to develop the drive to help others achieve their goals no matter what they are through hands on exercise or rehabilitation programing designed to meet the individuals specific needs.
